What leaves your phone, and what does not
Yarn records, transcribes and renders your video entirely on your iPhone. The text of your idea and your business profile are sent away to write the script. Both halves of that are true, and this page says which is which rather than making a single reassuring claim.
The short version
Your video and audio never leave the device. Only the text of your idea is sent away, to write the script. Yarn has no accounts, no sign up, no subscription and no trackers.
What stays on your iPhone
| Thing | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Your recorded takes | On the device only |
| Your finished videos | On the device only |
| The audio of your voice | On the device only |
| The transcription of what you said | On the device only, done by Apple’s on-device speech recognition |
| Your captions | On the device only |
Recording, transcription and rendering are all local operations. Yarn does not upload footage to a server to process it, which is why Yarn keeps working with no signal.
What is sent away
| Thing | Where it goes, and when |
|---|---|
| The text of your spoken idea | To the AI that writes your script, when you ask for a script |
| Your answers to the follow-up questions | Same request, same moment |
| Your business profile | Same request, so the script sounds like you |
| Comment text, if you ask for a reply draft | To the AI, only when you ask |
| Your finished video, if you post it | From your phone to your own Zernio account, only when you tap post |
The scriptwriting request goes to an Awesomate endpoint and on to the AI provider. The writing runs on your own OpenRouter account, so the cost is yours and the key is used for that one call and kept nowhere.
Posting goes phone to platform
When you post a video, the file goes from your iPhone to your own Zernio account, and from there to the social platform you chose. The video does not pass through Awesomate at any point. Posting only happens when you tap the button.
There is no account
Yarn has nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. Your business profile is stored on the device and is not held anywhere else. Because there are no accounts, there is no user record at Awesomate to attach anything to.
Optional features use your own accounts
Four features run on credentials you supply: scriptwriting through OpenRouter, posting through Zernio, an AI twin reading the script through HeyGen, and generated cutaway footage through Kie. Each is your own account with your own billing. Yarn works without all four.
What Yarn does not collect
Yarn collects no contact information, no location, no identifiers, no browsing or search history, no purchase history, no usage analytics and no diagnostics. Yarn does not track you, and Yarn contains no advertising or analytics software.
Permissions Yarn asks for
Camera
Used to record your video. Your recordings stay on this iPhone.
Microphone
Used to record your voice, both when you describe your idea and when you record a take.
Speech recognition
Used to write your captions. Transcription happens on this iPhone and your audio never leaves the device.
Photos
Used to save your finished video. Yarn only writes the videos you make.
Refusing speech recognition or Photos degrades Yarn rather than blocking it. Without speech recognition there are no captions and the video still exports. Without Photos access the share sheet still works.
Contact
Yarn is made in Australia by Awesomate. For a privacy question, write to hello@awesomate.ai.
